10 Ways to Vibe-Code OrangeHRM on Your Server

October 4, 2026 ·

Your OrangeHRM server comes with a vibe-code agent sitting in an Open WebUI chat. It can read your OrangeHRM files, query its MySQL database, run commands, and restart services. Here are ten everyday HR jobs you can describe to it in plain English instead of clicking through the admin panel yourself.

1. Add a custom field to employee records

OrangeHRM’s PIM module has a custom field feature, but it is buried in the config screens, and the field still needs wiring into reports. Ask the agent to add a field — say “Cost center” or “T-shirt size” — under the right screen, then verify it shows up on employee profiles and inside the custom report builder. It can also confirm the values are stored correctly in the custom field tables and that existing employees can be backfilled without breaking anything. If a field type was picked wrong, it can drop and recreate it before real data lands. Try: “Add a custom field called ‘Cost Center’ to the PIM custom fields, make it a dropdown with CC-100, CC-200, CC-300, and show me where to edit it on an employee profile.”

2. Bulk-import your employee roster from a spreadsheet

Migrating from a spreadsheet of 80 employees is a weekend of manual data entry, or ten minutes with the agent. Export the sheet to CSV, hand it over, and let the agent map columns to PIM fields, run OrangeHRM’s CSV import, and verify the record counts match what you gave it. It can flag rows that failed validation — bad dates, missing job titles, unknown subunits — before you notice people are missing. Have it keep the original CSV and produce an import log so you can trace any record later. Try: “Here’s our staff CSV. Import everyone as active employees under the right job titles and subunits, then tell me how many records were created and which rows failed.”

3. Load this year’s public holidays and reconcile leave

Leave balances do not reflect reality until the holidays are in the system. Have the agent enter the full holiday list for the year into the leave module, then reconcile the fallout: approved leave requests that overlap a new holiday may need reclaiming, and half-day holidays need the right duration flag. It can do this as a draft first so you review the changes before anything is saved. Try: “Add the 2026 public holidays for our state, then list any approved leave requests that overlap those dates so I can decide whether to give the days back.”

4. Create a new leave type with its own rules

Companies invent leave types all the time: sabbatical, study leave, compassionate leave. Each one needs a definition, an entitlement rule, and a sanity check that it flows through the approval workflow. The agent can create it, assign entitlements to the right leave groups, and file a test request so you can see the approver email and the balance deduction. It should also tell you whether the new type affects accrual reports you already rely on. Try: “Create a ‘Compassionate Leave’ type, give everyone 5 days a year, and apply it to all leave groups. Then file a test request so I can see the approval email.”

5. Get back in when you are locked out of admin

Losing admin access to your HR system is an emergency, and it always happens on a Friday evening. The agent can reset a password hash directly in the user tables or create a fresh admin account with the correct role, getting you back in minutes. It should also tell you why the lockout happened — an expired password policy, or a broken SMTP config swallowing reset emails. Ask it to check the login audit trail while it is in there, so you know whether the failed attempts were you or someone else. Try: “I can’t log in as admin. Reset the admin password from the database, verify the login works, and check why the reset email never arrived.”

6. Pull a headcount or tenure report as a CSV

The stock PIM reports cover a lot, but the moment you ask “how many people in Engineering have been here over three years,” you are in custom territory. The agent can build the report through the report builder, or write the SQL directly against the employee tables and hand you a CSV. The SQL route is often faster, and the agent can show you the query so your bookkeeper or auditor can rerun it themselves. Ask for the same numbers both ways once, so you trust the output. Try: “Give me a CSV of all active employees with department, job title, and hire date, filtered to people hired before 2023.”

7. Onboard a new hire end to end

Onboarding touches a dozen screens: user account, role, supervisor, subunit, leave group, emergency contacts. The agent can run the whole sequence and verify each piece, including that the welcome email actually sends and the ESS login works with a test password change. Have it print the final checklist with each field it set, so HR signs off on facts rather than hoping. Try: “Onboard Jane Rivera starting October 12: create her ESS user, assign the ‘HR Analyst’ job title under the People subunit, set her supervisor to me, and confirm her login email went out.”

8. Clean up stale and duplicate employee data

Every HR database drifts: terminated employees still marked active, duplicate profiles, job titles spelled three different ways. The agent can hunt the rot — duplicate names, blank hire dates, people with a termination date but an active status — and fix or flag each case. It should always show you the list before changing anything, and take a database snapshot first so a bad cleanup is reversible. Try: “Find employee records that look duplicated or stale, like terminated staff still showing as active, and give me the list before changing anything.”

9. Fix email delivery once and for all

OrangeHRM leans on email for leave approvals, recruitment replies, and password resets, and misconfigured SMTP silently breaks all of it. The agent can read the email settings from the database, send a test message with a small script, check the mail server logs, and correct whatever is wrong. Ask it to test every email type — approval, reset, recruitment — because some templates use different settings than others. Try: “Leave approval emails aren’t arriving — check the SMTP settings, send a test message, and fix whatever is broken.”

10. Restructure departments and job titles

Org changes are tedious: new subunits, renamed departments, job titles merged or split. The agent can make the changes through the admin structure screens or directly via the database, keeping supervisors and assignments intact while it moves people around. It can also list everything that references the old names — reports, entitlements, pending requests — so nothing dangles after the move. Try: “Merge ‘Sales East’ and ‘Sales West’ into one ‘Sales’ subunit, move everyone over, and keep the current supervisors in place.”

None of these need a developer on retainer — just a clear sentence and a minute of the agent’s time. To get OrangeHRM on a server you control, with the agent built in, see OrangeHRM on OpenSysLab.
